The borough
Rugby town holds most of the borough’s population, with Bilton, Hillmorton, Brownsover, Newbold and Cawston around it, and then the villages: Dunchurch, Wolston, Long Lawford, Ryton-on-Dunsmore, Clifton upon Dunsmore and the rest, spread out towards the Northamptonshire and Leicestershire boundaries. The main line runs straight through, which is why so many households here commute a long way and why the borough keeps attracting distribution sites.
What we report
Rugby Borough Council’s planning register and committee papers, licensing notices, police.uk crime data, HM Land Registry sold prices, Food Standards Agency hygiene ratings, Environment Agency flood warnings for the Avon and the Swift, and company filings in The Gazette. Warwickshire County Council runs roads, schools and social care rather than the borough, and we say which body a decision belongs to.
Reorganisation in 2028
Rugby Borough Council is due to be abolished on 1 April 2028 and merged into a new North Warwickshire unitary authority with Nuneaton and Bedworth and North Warwickshire district. The centre of gravity of that authority will sit some way from Rugby, so decisions about this town will be taken alongside a set of places it has little day-to-day connection with. We will report each stage from the published papers and keep the practical pages pointing at whoever is actually responsible.
